Its built in sensors track your stats 24/7 – running, biking, swimming and even skiing and snowboarding. Although the Garmin Vivoactive is not an Android Wear smartwatch, the interface has lots of features that will please fitness enthusiasts.

What is a Garmin Vivoactive Smartwatch

The Garmin Vivoactive smartwatch is a watch that can connect to an app called “Garmin Connect” This application helps you manage your fitness activities by uploading data from the Garmin Vivoactive to the app, which creates an extensive picture of your overall health and fitness. With this information, you can make smarter decisions to keep you on track for a healthier lifestyle.

How does it work

You can use the heart rate monitor to automatically record your heart rate during exercises such as running, biking and swimming. It will save this information in an easy-to-find location so you can view trends over time, see how activities affect your heart rate, and make adjustments as needed. The Garmin Vivoactive also has a built-in accelerometer that will auto track walks, runs and rides when paired with a compatible smartphone via Bluetooth Smart or ANT+ technology. When recording activities using GPS, the watch features a battery life of 12 hours – long enough for most full days of activity. If you do not go on long trips often though it is nice to know that there are power saving features that can help conserve battery life. You can set the watch to go into a low power mode when you are not using it, and then instantly activate it by simply flicking your wrist.

Who should buy this watch

I would recommend this smartwatch for someone that wants a physical activity tracker with GPS functionality or just likes to use a smartwatch. This would be great for someone that wants to take their fitness to the next level but doesn’t want to spend too much money on a top end device like an Apple Watch or Fitbit Surge.

What are the pros and cons of the Garmin Vivoactive

I believe that the Garmin Vivoactive is better than other smartwatches because it has a longer battery life and can be used in water without damaging it, while still being able to track your heart rate accurately while swimming. The touch screen also makes it really easy to keep going through swiping motions without having any problem with pressing a button while hitting a bump in a ride or run.

Where can I get more information on the Garmin Vivoactive

If you are interested in getting the Garmin Vivoactive there have been many places that have been selling them for a reasonable price. I got my Garmin Vivoactive for $149 at Walmart on Black Friday. Some of the places that have been selling this watch are Amazon, REI, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Target, Best Buy and more!

The conclusion to my blog post about the Garmin Vivoactive

Overall I rate the Garmin Vivoactive smartwatch 4 out of 5 stars because it is really easy to use with an interface not too complicated like some other smartwatches which make it easier for users to customize their experience with its many features. I also personally like how they organized everything in the app so everything was organized by the day or month making it easier to see trends over time (if you can view trends). The only thing that probably could be improved would be adding in more daily features like the Fitbit Surge.
