About Casio Company
The company was founded on September 25th by Tadao Kashio who was also its president until his retirement in 2002. Today it is led by Kazuo Kashio who became President at the same time his father retired from the position. In 2003 Casio teamed up with Seiko Epson to form a joint venture called CEJN which specializes in electro-mechanical devices such as cash registers and ticketing machines.

The first watch that was produced by Casio was a digital watch that had an LED display with a red light that used just one button for its operation. It also had a stopwatch function as well as being water-resistant. This first Casio watch was introduced to the world at Basel Fair in Switzerland in 1973. It was named Casiotron and it cost ¥150,000 which back then would be the equivalent to around 8 months salary for a Japanese worker. However, this watch never went into production due to the high price tag because of its LED display mechanism as well as being very bulky at that time which made it much more expensive than a standard mechanical watch. Almost all of the watches that were sold by Casio in the 1970s are now very rare collector’s items that can be found on auction sites such as eBay or Yahoo Auctions for a premium price.

In 1998 it released the G-Shock which was a wristwatch that took a very serious beating and still worked just fine. It is known for being virtually indestructible so much so that today there are professional athletes who have been sponsored by Casio to wear their watches when they compete in extreme sports such as skateboarding, surfing, and even motocross.
